Etheridge Foundation Makes Grant to Heroic Hearts Project
The Etheridge Foundation is honored to make a $40,000 grant to our allies Heroic Hearts Project in support of their next veterans retreat. Along with the retreat grant, we’ve made a $4,000 Root Relationship Contribution to Indigenous-led ayahuasca biocultural conservation projects.
The retreat will focus on providing mental health support and healing for participants, with a particular focus on those facing mental health challenges including recovery from opioid use disorder (OUD).
Heroic Hearts Project (HHP) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission to help as many US veterans as possible overcome post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other military trauma by connecting them to safe and supervised access to psychedelic treatment programs, professional coaching, and ongoing community support.
Having a prior PTSD diagnosis significantly increases the odds of having an OUD diagnosis, which means that military veterans are at increased risk for OUD. Statistically, OUD is also more severe for people who have co-occurring PTSD.
“I’m thrilled that we can support the trailblazing, life-saving work of Heroic Hearts Project,” said Etheridge Foundation Founder Melissa Etheridge.
“Veterans have been leaders in advocacy for access to effective mental health treatments, and Heroic Hearts Project is on the front edge of helping suffering veterans heal and transform their lives.
Along with psychedelic-assisted treatment, their programs collect data about processes and outcomes, helping to advance access to treatment for all who could benefit.”
Along with connecting veterans to transformative treatment programs, HHP also focuses on:
Working with leading research organizations to develop and contribute to the growing base of psychedelic research.
Using research, data, and testimonials to counter the stigma associated with psychedelics and to advocate for changes in the laws limiting access to psychedelics programs as options.
Developing research-based resources and programs to inform and educate individuals and communities on the therapeutic potential of psychedelics.
Not only supporting veterans, but offering the same opportunities for veteran spouses.
We’re very grateful for Heroic Hearts Project and the incredible work that they do.
